Shive-Hattery was awarded a Commercial New Construction Program Energy Efficiency Award from Alliant Energy for the City of Cedar Rapids 4th Avenue SE Parkade and Connecting Skywalks Flood Recovery project. The award recognizes buildings that have a minimum 50% reduction in electric or gas usage as compared to the Iowa State Energy code.
The project was for FEMA funded repairs to the parking ramp from the June 2008 flooding. Services included mechanical, electrical, structural and architectural design for demolition, cleanup, environmental testing and clearance and reconstruction of the flood affected areas. Sustainable design solutions included automatic diming light fixtures, future locations for electric vehicle charging stations, and preferred parking signs for fuel efficient vehicles.
