Shive-Hattery announced the election of James A. Lee as President and the acquisition of Design Organization, Inc., a 29-person architecture, interior design and planning firm, with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Valparaiso, Indiana.

Lee has served as Executive Vice-President since January 2012. Thomas M. Hayden has served as President and Chairman of the Board since 1996 and will remain as Chairman of the company.

“By having the right leaders like Jim Lee in place, along with making strategic acquisitions, the firm is positioned for sustained growth,” said Tom Hayden, Shive-Hattery’s Chairman of the Board.

Lee joined the architectural and engineering consulting firm in 1985 and has over 30 years of market experience, client insight and industry knowledge. He has a mechanical engineering background and previously served as the Building Systems Team Leader in Shive-Hattery’s West Des Moines office, the largest team in the company.

“I look forward to my new role and being a part of expanding our presence into downtown Chicago and Indiana,” said Shive-Hattery President Jim Lee. “This is an exciting time for our firm. Both Shive-Hattery and Design Organization have cultures that are rooted in developing and maintaining long-term client relationships. The integration of our two firms will deepen our client-centered culture, provide new services in new communities and markets, and will continue the firm’s strong history of growth..”

As Shive-Hattery’s President, Lee is responsible for the overall leadership, culture, vision and direction of current and future operations of Shive-Hattery. The acquisition allows Shive-Hattery to broaden its geographical reach and to strengthen its design capabilities in the higher education, corporate workplace, and healthcare markets.
