A forward-thinking community, West Des Moines is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area, home to more than half a million people. We enjoy great quality of life here, and we plan to keep it that way. Our West Des Moines 2036
plan charts a course to help our community set the benchmark for being one of the most vibrant North American cities.
West Des Moines is currently the only Iowa city with a Moody’s and a Standard & Poor AAA bond rating, representing the highest level of credit worthiness of corporate or government bonds. There are more than 2,800 businesses here. Microsoft is a member of our corporate community; Facebook and Google have offices nearby as well. West Des Moines business professionals are supported through roundtables, networking and educational events – plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people. In 2015 alone in the Des Moines area, there were 137 regional business events hosting 12,000 attendees. And we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Young Professionals Connection.
And while we take business seriously, we also know how to have a great time. We are home to the 2 million-square-foot Jordan Creek Town Center
, with upscale fashion and lifestyle shops, a 3.5-acre lake, a boardwalk with waterfront dining, a hotel, a movie theater, an amphitheater and a village district. Jordan Creek draws visitors from across the country, as does the Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market (with 600,000 attendees in 2015) and the World Food & Musical Festival, which hit record attendance with 80,000 attendees in 2015.
No matter where you go, there’s something to do – within one mile of Shive-Hattery’s West Des Moines office are more than 20 restaurants, a mall and a seafood market. West Des Moines is home to 200 dining spots, from comedy clubs and dueling piano bars to rooftop restaurants and kid-friendly casual buffets. Once you’ve enjoyed a great meal, spend time on the 50 miles of biking and walking trails that run through our city as part of a 1,200-acre park system.
