Davenport North Performing Arts Center

Davenport North Performing Arts Center

Davenport, IA

The main feature of this 31,000-square-foot addition is the 799-seat auditorium. This multipurpose space is designed to meet the varied needs of the school's band, vocal, drama, and dance programs. In addition to serving the educational needs of North High School's students, the facility is utilized by the Davenport community for a variety of events.

The state-of-the-art auditorium includes a thrust stage, an orchestra pit, and a 45-foot-high fly loft. The interior features a rich, warm color scheme that is complemented by acoustical treatments that add to the character of this showplace.

Adjoining the auditorium space is a spacious lobby capable of accommodating large group receptions, a black box/rehearsal classroom for smaller groups and a drama classroom.

Other support spaces include a scene shop, a wardrobe area, a faculty lounge/workroom space, audio and visual control rooms and public restrooms. In keeping with the district's commitment to educate all students, all spaces in the addition are designed to meet the Americans with Disability Act standards.

This project received a Special Achievement Award from the Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois and an Honorable Mention from the Steel Joist Institute for structural engineering.
