Shive-Hattery worked closely with Iowa Lutheran to provide design services on a fast-track schedule for the renovation and improvement of the Obstetrics Department. The completed design creates a patient-family-staff friendly environment for a rejuvenated Birthing Center with aesthetic and functional improvements, addressing building and life safety code compliance issues, and making infrastructure system improvements. The entire fifth floor was renovated which included providing or improving 16 LDRP patient rooms, triage and testing facilities, well-baby and continuing care nurseries, cesarean birth suite, nurses stations and staff work areas, support areas, corridors, elevator lobby and waiting room.
