Eldridge Wastewater Upgrades
With the rapid growth of the community and general inflow/infiltration, the existing wastewater facility has needed to expand several times during the past 40 years that Shive-Hattery has been city engineer. Expansions were needed to keep up with peak wastewater flows and its organic capacity. As the city's engineer our challenge has been to provide cost-effective, timely solutions to the City and their constituents.
As their trusted advisor Shive-Hattery provides assistance with regards to funding options and implementation of solutions including working with governmental permitting agencies on the city’s behalf, design, construction services and startup services. Wastewater projects have included:
- 16,000 linear feet of gravity sanitary sewer, 56 sanitary manholes, four lift stations, reconditioning of two existing lift stations and the demolition of three lift stations, 1,500 linear feet of forcemain, 4,000 linear feet of storm sewer and the reconstruction of 6,000 linear feet of residential streets.
- Reconstruction and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant, including a new laboratory, a submersible chopper pump lift station, four sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), dual aerobic sludge digesters, and a sludge dewatering unit, new raw lift station, refurbishing of the control building, construction of a flow equalization basin and other associated site improvements.
- Increasing the capacity of the South Slope wastewater treatment facility and the Price Street lift station to meet the needs of the city's growing population. The improvements increased the facility's ability to pump and treat peak wastewater flows during storm events, brought the SBR treatment system into compliance with current Iowa DNR guidelines and provided the ability to handle and dispose of future sludge.
