CDB Rest Area Upgrades
Interstate 74 through Illinois is a highly traveled motorway. The Spoon River Rest Area had been frequently closed due to problems with the water system. The Illinois Capital Development Board wanted to make improvements both the Spoon River Rest Area and the Mackinaw Dells Rest Area to make these rest areas on I-74 more inviting places for all travelers.
The project involved upgrades to the water and waste water system at the eastbound and westbound Spoon River rest areas near Galesburg. Improvements included a water treatment system replacement at the Spoon River Rest Area and sewage system upgrades at both the Spoon River Rest Area and the Mackinaw Dells Rest Area. Sewage lagoon improvements were also made at the eastbound and westbound Mackinaw Dells Rest Areas near Goodfield
Travelers enjoy clean, safe drinking water at these rest areas. Sanitary waste is properly treated before being discharged into the pristine ecosystems of the Spoon River and the Mackinaw River. The new systems are automated which improves reliability and reduces the amount of time an attendant is needed on site.
