Advocate Eureka Surgical Addition

Challenge

Advocate Eureka Hospital (AEH) identified a need to modernize existing surgical suites and inpatient rooms leading to a 29,000 square foot, three-story addition.

Solution

The first level of the addition features two operating rooms, twice the size of the existing ORs, with monitors and touchscreen technology to view medical images and monitor patients in real-time. Replacing existing semi-private rooms, the second floor has 11 private rooms arranged identically for ease of use for staff and a comfortable nook for family members.  The lower level is unfinished space for mechanical purposes or future growth when needed.

Many challenges were overcome to make this project a success including relocating and reconnecting all major utilities that originally ran through the location of the new addition.  Also, the existing building had floor-to-floor heights that would not allow for the above ceiling clearances for the new technology and systems.

Impact

The end result is a beautiful space connected to the existing structure accommodating new technology and systems.  With the utility relocation, the hospital is poised for future expansion.  This project was also designed to LEED principles but not certified.
