Field Hockey/Soccer Complex
Field hockey and soccer are two very distinct sports, especially at the competitive university level. The University of Iowa Athletic Department was seeking a new complex for both sports. The goal was to create a facility that not only met the needs of both the field hockey and soccer programs, but also had a complimentary look and feel with existing University facilities. Our Shive-Hattery team strove to develop an all encompassing plan that would provide an optimal setting for both field hockey and soccer play.
The $1.8 million Hawkeye Athletic Recreation Facilities Complex features a plaza entrance, bleacher seating, a storage facility, a video platform and a scorers' box for field hockey. Synthetic turf was selected by the University for the field hockey field, which required extremely precise planning and installation. The “pitch,” as it’s called, features a full-field sprinkler system, a necessary amenity for a field hockey facility as the game is played on a wet surface.
Today the field hockey complex is praised by the University of Iowa Athletic Department as one of the top five field hockey facilities in the country. The facility also compliments the neighboring University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame Building
