Fort Dodge Community Recreation Master Plan

Shive-Hattery completed master planning, design, construction documentation, and construction administration for a new 20 acre community park and family aquatics center for the City of Fort Dodge.

The park design emphasizes sustainable development and explores the agrarian history of the site as the Schmoker Family Farm, birthplace of the original ‘Floyd of Rosedale’. Design elements include walking trails, open play fields, naturalized planting and storm water management areas, a playground, a shelter and picnic area, restrooms and parking areas. The aquatics facility includes a zero depth entry family pool, a competitive pool and diving area, a lazy river, as well as multiple slides and play structures. The interior landscaping creates a distinctive resort feeling environment, with outdoor rooms defined by earth forms and native plant material. The bath house building and other structures take their cues from the agricultural heritage of the site with traditional forms and colors. Throughout the site, representations of the Six Pillars of Character remind kids and adults of the importance of good citizenship.
