Shoppes at College Hills
The mall owners, Cullinan Properties, wanted to rejuvenate the existing mall to a new shopping experience. The original College Hills Mall, built in the late 1970s on a 54-acre site, had become over 80 percent vacant. This project involved demalling the original center and the creation of a new lifestyle center. Major tenants including Von Maur Department Store, Target and Hobby Lobby remained in their existing buildings.
Site improvements involved the relocation and reconfiguration of entrance drives and almost 50 percent of the parking spaces at the existing mall center. The site was transformed from a sea of asphalt and concrete to a more livable softer feel through the use of signage, stylized lighting, landscaping, benches, and pavers to create a more relaxed atmosphere. The reconfigured parking spaces were located to aid in traffic circulation while getting shoppers closer to the destination of their choosing.
The new center offers upscale shopping, dining, and entertainment. This lifestyle center provides an experience like no other Future improvements to the site will include a hotel and more retail areas.
