Davenport, IA
The City of Davenport, Iowa continues its efforts to revitalize its riverfront. One of its historic structures is Modern Woodmen Park, a minor league baseball park that opened in 1931 with one-of-a-kind placement on a riverfront venue.
Adjacent to Modern Woodmen Park was a parking lot that needed the same attention as the historic stadium itself. Shive-Hattery created an outdoor plaza that complements the stadium, enhances pre-game experiences and encourages use as an outdoor venue when games are not in session. Two hundred stalls were also added to the parking lot to improve parking conditions.
At the request of the City, green principles were incorporated into the project through the use of bioswales and native plant materials.
The City was awarded a 2011 Quad City Riverfront Council Certificate of Appreciation for this project.
