North Bend Elementary School is a new $6.6 million facility that has the capacity to serve 500 students in grades Pre-K through 4. This 52,000-square-foot building reflects the latest in educational thinking and sustainable design. The curriculum needs of the elementary were the basis for all design decisions.
The building's classrooms are organized around two learning areas for primary and intermediate aged students. Each spacious classroom hosts the latest in educational technology and extensive storage to reduce distractions from learning.
Community use is facilitated by separating public facilities from the remainder of the building: cafeteria/commons, media center and gymnasium.
A horizontal bore closed loop geothermal system with 475 tons of cooling capacity will provide heating, ventilating and cooling for the new school.
Sustainable design elements include geothermal heating and cooling, desiccant heat recovery, variable speed pumping, direct digital controls, automatic flush and lavatory faucets, motion sensors for lighting, multi-level lighting in occupied spaces, fluorescent lighting in gymnasiums to allow for multi level lighting and increase efficiency, daylighting and views in all occupied spaces.
