Paxton Clinic

Paxton Clinic

Gibson City, IL

Paxton Clinic, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine facility is a unique facility located in a small rural community in central Illinois. The building is owned by Gibson Area Hospital as a remote clinic and physical therapy facility. It is special in that it offers hydro/aqua therapy not currently available in the area.

To accommodate expanding staff and services, the clinic added 7,500 square feet. The clinic now houses four physicians and spaces include exam rooms, nurse station, general radiology room, minor procedure rooms, locker rooms, aqua therapy pool, physical therapy gym, reception and waiting areas. Shive-Hattery provided architecture, interior design and mechanical, electrical and structural engineering.

The building was occupied in two phases in order to accommodate the need of a new physician hired by the hospital. The project was bid in July and needed to have the first phase occupied in November which was accomplished. Additionally, the existing clinic needed to remain in operation while the addition was built.

The second phase included the aqua therapy pool which, as expected, took longer to occupy due to Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) procedures. The other parts of the physical therapy facility, including the gymnasium and treatment area, were occupied before the pool.
