South Slope Sewer Treatment Plant

Shive-Hattery assisted the City of Eldridge in upgrading its existing sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment facility. Services included preparing preliminary assessments of existing wastewater treatment facilities as well as existing and future wastewater loads, interceptor sanitary sewer routing, lift station and force main layout; evaluation of preliminary design alternatives; coordination with Iowa Department of Natural Resources; and preparation of cost opinions.

The project was implemented in two phases. Division one included design and construction observation services for 16,000 linear feet of gravity sanitary sewer, ranging in size from 10 to 27 in diameter, 56 sanitary manholes, two lift stations, reconditioning of two existing lift stations and the demolition of three existing lift stations, 300 linear feet of forcemain, 1,100 linear feet of storm sewer and the reconstruction of 2,700 linear feet of residential streets. Division two involved design and construction observation services for reconstruction and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant. Building and system improvements included a new laboratory, a submersible chopper pump lift station, two sequencing batch reactors, dual aerobic sludge digesters, and a sludge dewatering unit new raw lift station, refurbishing of the control building and other associated site improvements.
