The South Shores office (Chicago and/or Cleveland) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Architect experienced in commercial office and workplace design while having a firm understanding and comprehension of market trends. This talented, detail-oriented individual will demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to strengthen and support the performance of the office by creating a work environment where staff are engaged, mentored and can excel in their abilities. 

Candidates should demonstrate experience in all aspects of the design process including Programming, Master Planning, Conceptual, Schematic and Design Development presentations, 3D modeling, and the technical proficiency to successfully implement designs through the CD/CA phases. Responsibilities would include participation in design phase activities and coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors throughout the project. This candidate will also ensure clients receive superior service while supporting business development efforts and overall growth.

Required Experience 

  • 10+ years of experience in a design firm with proven leadership and team management skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture 
  • Licensed Architect in the State of Illinois
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, SpecLink,, Newforma, SketchUp, Photoshop and InDesign 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be collaborative and have positive/effective team building skills 
  • Must have a good understanding of business financial metrics used to monitor office 
  • performance 
  • Must be able to manage workflow balance and personnel resources
  • Must have demonstrated business development capabilities and manage/support marketing 
  • efforts
  • Must have a strong can-do attitude with strong problem solving skills

Requirements:

  • Develop and encourage market trend analysis and thought leadership in commercial office and workplace design 
  • Engage and be active in community and professional organizations 
  • Pursue new clients and relationships in both the Chicagoland area and nationally
  • Support initiatives to elevate the design quality and profile
  • Support the One Firm, Firm Philosophy by building strong relationships in business development and work sharing with all Shive-Hattery Offices
  • Work with Group Leaders to balance workload, resources, and project schedules
  • Strive to create an environment and culture consistent with our business and people values
  • Assist project team with design and technical questions during the project 
  • Direct a project team
