Description
Shive-Hattery's West Des Moines office has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Summer Intern. As an intern, you will work on real client projects, mentored by all levels of our electrical group staff. Our group works on a wide variety of projects related to industrial, healthcare, education, government, and commercial buildings.
As an intern, you are partnered with a mid-to-senior-level employee to form a supportive mentor/mentee relationship built on your shared Shive-Hattery experiences. Connecting one-on-one in a relaxed, informal way allows for the development of professional relationships that complement your classroom learning and makes for a richer Shive-Hattery experience.
Because we are a full-service firm, you have the unique opportunity to collaborate with other in-house architecture and engineering disciplines. You will also learn software commonly used by electrical engineering consultants, so you can hit the ground running when you start your first full-time job.
Interns gain different levels of experience from the office and the field. You will work on real projects our team are currently involved in. These experiences will help you grow and understand more about the Electrical Engineering profession, working collaboratively with project teams, and how to serve the needs of clients. From these real-world interactions, you will develop the skills to collaborate with peers and clients while building your professional network. We also introduce you to the consulting engineering industry and the unique opportunities that are offered.
Requirements
- Student in Electrical or Construction/Architectural Engineering (electrical emphasis) from an accredited engineering school
- Able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills
- Effective oral and written communication
- Curiosity and motivation to learn through both mentorship and self-study
Internships are about gaining real experiences to better your knowledge and understanding of the career you're interested in. You will be treated like a full-time staff member with the same learning opportunities. At Shive-Hattery, you work on actual client projects and have the opportunity to see your work make a direct impact on Shive-Hattery, as well as the community. This is a great way to broaden your experience and bulk up your portfolio!
