Nick Hatz, ICR-Cedar Rapids Civil Engineer & Commercial Squad Leader, was selected for the Corridor Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 award. This award program recognizes 40 leaders under the age of 40 who have made a significant impact in their business and community early in their careers.
“Nick is a ‘big picture’ thinker, regularly offering suggestions to improve our processes and lends a helping hand whenever it is needed. We are so grateful to have Nick’s leadership in support of our work and the needs of Johnson County,” said Shelly Maharry, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Johnson County. “Nick and his family are proud to call our corridor home. He embodies all the qualities we need in our young leaders who are helping to make this area the very best place to live, give, work and play.”
He grew up in Iowa City and attended West High School and the University of Iowa. After graduation, he spent a handful of years in Colorado before deciding to return to his hometown in Iowa. His wife, Jenni, writes, “We have chosen to spend our adult years back here, to raise our kids and establish strong roots in the community that raised us.”
Upon their return, Nick began working at Shive-Hattery in 2015 as a civil engineer. Nick stays involved in the community through his work serving on the Board of the Community Foundation of Johnson County along with his involvement with economic and development groups in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area.
“Nick’s ability to reflect on not only our various client’s needs but also on the impact our projects have on our communities has been invaluable. He has contributed to Shive-Hattery’s success in integrating our architectural and engineering projects into the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Corridor’s built environment,” said Mark Seabold, ICR-Iowa City Architect.
An awards banquet was held on October 14 at the DoubleTree by Hilton to recognize this year’s honorees. The CBJ’s awards issue was published on October 25.
