Shive-Hattery proudly celebrates Lisa Schettler, IIDA, Des Moines Workplace Studio Leader, as the 2025 recipient of the Icon Award, the highest individual honor from the IIDA Great Plains Chapter.
The award recognizes career excellence, leadership, and a profound impact on the interior design profession.
With more than two decades of experience advancing interior design across Iowa and the West Coast, Lisa’s influence reaches far beyond the spaces she helps shape. Her recent work championing legislation to grant Stamp and Seal rights to Registered Interior Designers in Iowa marks a defining moment for the profession.

Lisa stands with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds at the signing of landmark legislation granting Stamp and Seal rights to Registered Interior Designers, language she help author and championed through years of strategic collaboration.
Lisa not only authored the bill language but led years of negotiations with AIA, NCARB, ASID, and CIDQ. Her leadership helped the bill pass unopposed by AIA, a rare and powerful achievement.
“Lisa’s collaborative approach set the tone for a model piece of legislation,” shared Shive-Hattery president, Jen Bennett.
That model is now being adopted in other states, including Nebraska, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Lisa’s advocacy included speaking at legislative subcommittees, leading town halls, creating resources for IIDA members, and building multidisciplinary support.
Her efforts affirm the essential role of interior design in creating functional, code-compliant, and people-centered spaces.
“Far beyond finishes and furniture, registered interior design is about health, safety, and well-being,” added Bennett. “We encourage and support our interior designers in stamping and sealing their work—just as we do across all disciplines.”
Congratulations, Lisa. Your leadership is shaping the future of interior design.
