Overview

Shive-Hattery’s Iowa City office has an opportunity for an entry-level structural engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience in the design of structural engineering projects. In this position, you will be a part of a team that investigates concrete parking ramps, designs engineering solutions for repair, and works with contractors to implement solutions. Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • Structural Engineering emphasis preferred.
  • Structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry preferred.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
  • Must have good attention to detail.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, and structural engineering design software is preferred.
  • Basic Microsoft Office software proficiency is required.

Requirements

  • Design projects as a structural engineer for education, industrial, healthcare, and commercial projects with the primary focus on parking structure restoration. 
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians as part of multi-discipline teams.
  • Provide design and drawing production support for projects in the structural discipline.
  • Additional responsibilities include shop drawing/submittal review, field data collection, and project documentation.
  • Will work under the direct supervision and mentoring of several licensed structural engineers.
  • Must have the ability to travel with limited overnights.
  • Must be able to drive, climb ladders, work from elevated platforms and open grating, and wear personal protective equipment required for project sites.
