Libby Funke, Medical Planner; Todd Wehr, Healthcare Architect/Group Leader; Cameron Campbell (Iowa State University) and Deajin Kim (Iowa State University) presented at the HCD Conference + Expo and shared industry insight on micro-hospitals.
Micro-hospitals represent the next evolutionary step toward inclusive healthcare delivery in that they can provide a wide range of accessible and convenient medical services in underserved (and often rural) communities.
In order to develop creative design solutions to address various problems in a micro-hospital, an interdisciplinary healthcare design studio has been developed with professional partners working over two years.
The session shared a current case study and design strategies of a micro-hospital based on an evidence-based design approach. Attendees learned about the unique challenges in designing micro-hospital for inclusive healthcare delivery in underserved communities.
