Pima JTED (Joint Technical Education District) needed a new facility that could support a wide range of career and technical education programs for high school students across 14 public school districts. The challenge was to design a flexible, future-ready learning environment that aligned with the Bridges Master Plan while serving as a gateway project for the area’s development. The building also needed to accommodate specialized programs like Culinary Arts, Mechatronics, and Health Care, all within a collaborative design-build process.

Shive-Hattery partnered with Bourn Properties and BFL Construction to deliver a 50,000-square-foot facility that blends academic functionality with the aesthetic goals of the Bridges development. The building’s location along the western edge of the site creates a thoughtful transition between future commercial development and the adjacent railroad. The design includes specialized labs, traditional classrooms, and shared learning spaces that support both technical training and STEM education. The project was delivered through a collaborative design-build approach that prioritized efficiency, adaptability, and long-term value.

The JTED Innovation Learning Center is now a regional hub for hands-on, career-focused education. It empowers students with real-world skills in high-demand fields and strengthens partnerships between school districts and industry. As the first project in the B-IV area of the Bridges, it also sets the tone for future development. Shive-Hattery’s integrated design helped create a space that inspires learning, supports workforce development, and contributes to the long-term success of the Tucson community.
