Churchill Downs and Hard Rock leadership sought to enhance the guest experience at the Sioux City, Iowa Hard Rock Hotel & Casino by repurposing an underutilized buffet space. The goal was to transform the area into a flexible, multi-purpose meeting room that could accommodate a variety of events while aligning with the brand’s energetic and upscale atmosphere. The challenge was to reimagine the space within the constraints of an existing footprint, ensuring functionality, comfort, and visual appeal for both casual and corporate use.

Shive-Hattery collaborated with Churchill Downs and the project team to provide interior design and architectural services that supported the transformation of the buffet into a dynamic meeting space. Working closely with the client and stakeholders, our team developed a design that maximized the existing layout while introducing new finishes, lighting, and spatial configurations to support multiple uses. The design reflects the Hard Rock brand while offering flexibility for private events, meetings, and entertainment functions.

The renovated space elevates the property’s offerings by providing a modern, adaptable venue that enhances guest engagement and expands revenue opportunities. By repurposing existing square footage, the Sioux City Hard Rock achieved a cost-effective upgrade that supports both operational goals and brand identity.
