Back to projects

The City of North Liberty acquired 40 acres of land and began the initial master plan process in 2012. Shive-Hattery and the City worked together to implement the first three phases of this master plan, including a 175-stall permeable paver parking lot, satellite parking stalls, 10 foot-wide shared-use loop path, 1,200 foot-long bioswale, retention pond, landscaping, lighting and power hookups.

In 2022, the master plan was updated and expanded in scope to align with North Liberty’s goals for the future. Themes maintained throughout the master plan process include water quality, connection to nature, inclusivity, supporting year-round events, and creating a regional attraction in the heart of North Liberty. Key program features included a 10,000 square foot event building with an outdoor stage on one side facing a great lawn, a 50’x100’ open air pavilion, a 5,000 square foot splashpad, and an honor garden.

The event center can host 300-person events. The open air pavilion is a versatile structure that can host outdoor ice skating, youth sports, beer gardens, etc. Additional sidewalks and expansive plaza space provide connectivity between activity zones, and a few park shelters add scattered gathering spaces to the site. The park has a mix of structured play and passive recreation, and has the ability to host the annual Blues & BBQ among other large events.

Inspired design, natural elements, and a sense of community unfold for the City of North Liberty with the continued construction of Centennial Park’s Event Complex.
