Clinton Perrin Substation

Back to projects

As energy demands increased along the US Highway 61/67 corridor, Alliant Energy needed a new substation to strengthen system reliability and support future growth. The selected site was located near the city’s gateway—a visually sensitive area that required careful planning and community engagement to gain support from local stakeholders and city officials.

Shive-Hattery began working with Alliant Energy in 2016 to evaluate multiple potential sites and ultimately identify the most suitable location. Our team developed detailed site renderings to illustrate how the substation would integrate into its surroundings. These visuals became a key tool in Alliant’s presentations to the City Council, helping secure approval and community buy-in. We continued to provide design and development support to ensure the substation met both technical requirements and aesthetic expectations.

Completed and energized in 2022, the Clinton Perrin Substation now delivers a reliable, redundant, and resilient power supply to the city’s gateway area and nearby industrial developments. Through a collaborative and responsive approach, Shive-Hattery helped Alliant Energy deliver critical infrastructure that respects community character while enabling long-term growth.
