Davenport Modern Woodman Park HVAC Replacement

Back to projects

Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa, is a historic minor league stadium with beautiful views of the Mississippi River. The City of Davenport and River Bandits owner Main Street Baseball wanted to restore the original look of the ballpark’s events room while also upgrading and modernizing the HVAC system to make the suites more hospitable.

The first step was replacing the aging, clunky HVAC system that didn’t allow suites to manage their own temperatures and sometimes stopped working. Modern units that were smaller with less duct work were added that allowed each suite to control their climate individually. Wanting to minimize the appearance of the systems from the streets below, photography was done from many surrounding vantage points and then different models inserted. This helped determine that the least obtrusive placement was in the middle of the roof then spread along the curvature of the ceiling.

Removing the large duct work of the previous HVAC system allowed the artificially low nine-foot ceilings of the events room to be opened back up to upwards of 15 feet high in places, more in keeping with the room’s original look. Acoustic ceiling clouds were added to help buffer sound. The room was finished with a neutral color scheme to help expand the range of events the ballpark can host.
