Hotel Tower Renovation at Golden Nugget

Located in Lake Tahoe, NV

Back to projects

Shive-Hattery was commissioned by Fertitta Entertainment to renovate and rebrand the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Lake Tahoe, NV to their Golden Nugget Casino Resort brand.

The property, originally developed in the 1960’s, will undergo a major transformation of all public spaces and amenities to Golden Nugget’s signature brand. Nationally recognized for gaming and its restaurant brands, Golden Nugget will elevate this property to the high standards of other resorts from Lake Charles, La.; Biloxi, Miss.; and Las Vegas, Nev.

The exterior facades of the facility will receive a fresh color palette reflective of the Golden Nugget resorts with new exterior features of natural stone and wood columns and beams wrapping the existing façade from the south casino entrance to the Porte Cochere. This feature will utilize materials native to the local area and create a cohesive effect across the primary public façade facing Highway 50 and connecting the two primary public entrances. A new casino entrance has been developed along the east façade of the building with the intention of capturing potential customers walking along the new sidewalk and landscape features aligned with Highway 50.

The property has two separate hotel towers totaling more than 500 guest rooms. These towers bookend the outdoor pool area. The Sunset Tower has 200 plus rooms featuring pool cabana suites on the ground floor that have their own private patios and direct access to the pool deck. The Heavenly Tower has 300 plus guestrooms with a variety of room configurations including multiple suite types and sizes offering unique amenities and luxurious finishes. Both towers will receive a complete renovation with new HVAC systems, luxurious guestroom bathrooms, new furniture and finishes for a comprehensive makeover of both hotel towers.

The outdoor pool area will be completely redeveloped with entirely new features including a pool bar structure with multiple seating areas, table games and full bar experience. New daybeds, private cabanas, and poolside loungers along with new landscaping are incorporated into the new resort pool. A hot tub cluster with fire pit groupings have been added to the pool area venue. The fully redesigned pool deck area will feature a fully heated bar area, a heated pool and pool deck capable of year-round comfort for the resort customer.

Fertitta Entertainment/Landry’s Inc. is well known for their nationally recognized brand of restaurants located throughout the country. This property redevelopment will include two of their well-known branded restaurants, Saltgrass Steak House and Mastro’s, their signature fine dining restaurant.  The Saltgrass Steak House will include the expansion of the existing outdoor dining and lounge seating area adjacent to the south casino entrance. This dynamic outdoor patio space will be open year-round and will include a new exterior bar, additional fire pits and seating zones that will activate the south casino entrance and visibility to the public from Highway 50. The refresh of the existing dining space will include a more volumetrically spacious venue with an open layout and easy access through the outdoor patio. Mastro’s, a formal and sophisticated dining experience, will significantly “raise the bar” well above the other fine dining options available in the Lake Tahoe area. Additional venues being developed at the facility include the Bean & Bread coffee shop, Bill’s Bar Burgers & Bets sportsbook, a spa and an arcade.
