Warehouse + Freezer Expansion

Located in Madison, WI

Back to projects

This bioscience client’s operation had been growing fast, and they were running out of room at their Madison, WI facility.

In addition to the need for more space, the site presented some unique challenges: wet ground, a compact footprint, and tricky access.

Shive-Hattery worked with the client to design a building addition that not only met the current space and environmental requirements, but set them up for future expansion.

  • Added storage provides room for cultures and enzymes.
  • New loading docks allow for more efficient flow of materials.
  • The fire pump room got an expansion, too, to support the extra square footage and keep workers safe in an emergency.
  • A site traffic study (yes, we do traffic studies!) showed options for making the facility more accessible, both for trucks delivering and picking up materials and employees driving to work.
  • Knowing that cold storage needs were on the horizon, we designed them into the space planning, foundations, mechanical systems and equipment supports.
  • We also provided site planning and schematic-level design for site utility systems and support structures, as well as an employee breakroom, which were not included in construction.
