The Clear Creek Amana Community School District, which encompasses the communities of Tiffin, Oxford, the Amana Colonies and portions of North Liberty and Coralville has been rapidly growing over the course of 15 years.  In 2006, as part of a large master planning effort with Shive-Hattery, the District began the design of a brand new elementary to serve the students on the east side of the District.  Through meetings and collaboration with community members, administrators, staff and the school board, the ideas and goals for the new building were established. Versatility, collaboration, visibility, comfort and community are the themes found woven through the design of the facility.

The Clear Creek Amana Community School District was also in need of a new high school to serve its growing student population. The new facility would serve grades 9 through 12 and based on growth projections should be built initially for 600 students. It also needed to be planned for expansion of up to 1,200 in the near future. Administrators, teachers, school board and community members alike desired a facility that reflected the latest in educational thinking, technology and sustainable design. A key goal of the district is to prepare their student to be life-long learners in both collaborative and individual environments.

The Iowa One Cent Sales Tax (SILO) Educational Fund provided a funding opportunity for a new Performing Arts Center for the Clear Creek Amana Community School District as well. A new high school, opened in 2009, had planned space for a Performing Arts Center, but the district's bonding capacity had not been able to fund it. The school board and the district's constituents, through a "Revenue Purpose Statement" vote, agreed that the Performing Arts Center should be one of the projects funded by the new source. They felt it would enhance and help grow the drama, vocal and instrumental programs. But first, and foremost, they saw it as another educational venue, adding to their multiple means for delivering and diversifying curriculum. Their vision meant the facility would need to accommodate everything from a writing class' final presentation to a full blown production of The Wizard of Oz.
