Back to projects

Valparaiso University's goal for the Phyllis & Richard Duesenberg Welcome Center was to create a new campus gateway and welcoming experience for prospective students and their families, returning alumni and guests.

The 14,800-square-foot building is located on a prominent meadow at the main campus entrance and is sited to afford panoramic views of the University. The sloping roof form frames a view of the iconic Chapel of the Resurrection, which represents Valparaiso University's foundation as a faith based institution. The lobby is a transparent welcoming beacon of activity day and night. The story of the Valparaiso University is woven through the building to reinforce the University mission and values to all who visit. The Welcome Center is home to Admissions, Enrollment and Educational Recruiting as well as meeting and presentation spaces.

The Welcome Center now serves as a truly welcoming venue for both the University and the greater Valparaiso community. The design was referred to as "aspirational" by University President Mark Heckler.
