Shive-Hattery is proud to announce that Nathan (Nate) Hardisty, PE, Vice President and Public Infrastructure Business Unit Director, has been named to the Business Record’s 2026 Forty Under 40 class.
Each year, the Business Record recognizes 40 local leaders under the age of 40 who demonstrate exceptional career achievements and meaningful community involvement. The 2026 class marks the 27th year of the program, joining more than 1,000 past honorees recognized since the awards began in 2000.
Nate leads Shive-Hattery’s Public Infrastructure Business Unit, overseeing nearly 100 professionals across six states. Since joining the firm in 2014, he has steadily advanced from Transportation Engineer to Transportation Group Leader and, in 2024, was promoted to Vice President and Business Unit Director. A shareholder since 2018, Nate is known for his collaborative, servant-leader approach and his commitment to developing strong teams alongside strong infrastructure.
Throughout his career, Nate has helped guide some of Central Iowa’s most visible and community-shaping infrastructure projects, including the Athene Pedestrian Bridge, Grand Prairie Parkway improvements, Veterans Parkway enhancements, and numerous major roadway and civic initiatives. His work supports safer mobility, economic development, and long-term community growth.
“Nate’s leadership is marked by vision, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on improving the communities we serve through thoughtful design,” said Jennifer Bennett, SE, PE, President & CEO of Shive-Hattery. “He mentors emerging leaders, builds trusted relationships, and exemplifies the kind of values-driven leadership this recognition celebrates.”
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Nate maintains deep community involvement. He has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Waukee since 2016, serving as President (2022–2023), Community Service Chair, and Waukee Palooza Co-Chair. He volunteers at St. Boniface Catholic Church, served on the 2023 Waukee Schools Bond Referendum Committee, and recently joined the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
“Nate’s continued service as Past President and as Co-Chair of Waukee Palooza underscores his belief that leadership is not a title, but a responsibility,” said Katherine Harrington, President & CEO of West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce.
Nate is also a recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers – Iowa Chapter Outstanding Civil Engineer Award (2023) and Associate Member of the Year (2017).
Reflecting on the honor, Nate shared:
“This recognition reflects the teams, mentors, and communities I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. Infrastructure is more than roads and bridges — it’s the people who lead, collaborate, and serve. I’m grateful to be part of a firm that invests in developing leaders who strengthen the communities we call home.”
Please join us in congratulating Nate on this well-deserved recognition.
