The Ames community faced a growing need for accessible, high-quality outpatient surgical care. With the increasing demand for specialty procedures such as ENT, orthopedics, and gastroenterology, the existing facilities at Mary Greeley Medical Center and McFarland Clinic Physician Group struggled to keep up. Patients often faced long wait times and limited options for specialized care, leading to dissatisfaction and the need to travel out of town for certain procedures. Additionally, there was a need to create a streamlined, modern facility that could support a collaborative environment for healthcare providers while enhancing the patient experience.

To address these challenges, Shive-Hattery collaborated with the Mary Greeley Medical Center and McFarland Clinic to design a new state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center. The facility will feature six operating rooms, four endoscopy rooms, and comprehensive support spaces including pre- and post-operative rooms, PACU, sterile processing areas, staff lounges, and offices. This design prioritizes patient flow and staff efficiency, with specialized spaces for procedures across multiple disciplines such as urology, podiatry, ophthalmology, gynecology, and gastrointestinal services.
The new Ames Surgery Center will enhance healthcare access and patient satisfaction by consolidating specialty procedures in a state-of-the-art facility, improving efficiency and reducing travel for the community.
