Birthways at Mary Greeley Medical Center

Located in Ames, IA

Back to projects

Mary Greeley Medical Center, Iowa’s largest Baby-Friendly facility located in Ames, has moved forward with its comprehensive Master Site and Facilities Plan. This project relocates Birthways and the Pediatric Acute Care Unit from the South Tower to the new West Patient Tower, combining the two units on the same floor. The co-location of these two units allows for seamless and efficient quality service delivery to expecting families, newborns, and children up to 18-years-old.

The newly renovated floor will provide a modern, warm and friendly environment with an 8-room pediatric unit and 23 patient rooms that support labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum, and family-centered NICU care. The integrated, family-centered NICU model eliminates the open-bay NICU and minimizes the need to move moms or babies when higher acuity care is needed. It also increases the care team’s efficiency and effectiveness by supporting multiple providers, staff, and equipment in the same room, enabling immediate parental involvement in the continuum of care for the infant, which statistically increases outcomes.
