Horn Memorial – 2022 ED-Lab Addition-Renovation

Horn Memorial Hospital needed to expand and modernize its emergency department and laboratory to better serve patients in Ida Grove and surrounding communities. The challenge was adding 6,800 square feet of new space and renovating 3,400 square feet of existing space without disrupting critical hospital operations. The design had to improve efficiency, patient flow, and staff functionality while meeting strict healthcare standards. At the same time, the hospital wanted a welcoming environment that reflects its commitment to quality care.

In addition to the building addition and renovation, considerable sitework was completed. This included new parking areas, upgraded underground utilities to replace aging systems, and a relocated mobile MRI truck positioned for greater convenience for patients and staff.

Shive-Hattery partnered with Horn Memorial to create a solution that enhances both patient experience and operational performance. The addition provides updated emergency treatment areas, improved lab facilities, and infrastructure upgrades to support advanced medical technology. Renovated spaces were designed for flexibility and future growth, ensuring the hospital can adapt to changing healthcare needs. Careful planning and collaboration minimized disruptions during construction while keeping the project on schedule and within budget.
