Momentum Development Group envisioned transforming a cluster of long-underused historic buildings in South Bend into a vibrant hub for innovation and connection. The challenge was creating a space that honored the character of the original structures while introducing modern amenities that attract entrepreneurs, businesses, and the community. The project needed to balance flexibility for coworking and events with hospitality and housing components, all within a cohesive campus design. At its core, the development aimed to energize South Bend’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and foster collaboration.

Shive-Hattery partnered with Momentum to design the Momentum Entrepreneurship Hub as the centerpiece of this revitalized campus. The 45,000-square-foot renovation includes coworking spaces, private offices, meeting rooms, and event areas designed for creativity and productivity. Amenities such as craft coffee on tap, a stylish social venue called The Salvation Bar, and a commissary kitchen for Navarre Hospitality Group elevate the experience for tenants and visitors. The design blends historic character with modern finishes, creating a space that feels both authentic and forward-thinking.

When complete, the Momentum campus will redefine what it means to work, connect, and grow in South Bend. Entrepreneurs will have access to first-class resources typically found in larger cities, while businesses and hospitality partners benefit from shared energy and collaboration. The project strengthens the city’s economic fabric by attracting talent and supporting local ventures. Shive-Hattery’s design approach ensures the campus is not only functional but inspiring—a place where ideas thrive and community comes together.
