UCM – CCD OR 6/7 Renovation

Located in Chicago, IL

Back to projects

The University of Chicago Medicine sought to backfill two new operating rooms within an active surgical environment while maintaining day-to-day operations. Shive-Hattery partnered closely with clinical staff, facilities, and leadership to understand how the rooms functioned and where improvements could have the greatest impact. Through collaborative planning and open communication, the team helped identify opportunities to reorganize layouts, improve equipment placement, and support more efficient workflows.

The design focused on flexible, function-driven solutions that align with current needs while allowing for future adaptability. Upgraded infrastructure, enhanced lighting, and thoughtful coordination contribute to a more efficient surgical environment. Careful planning helped minimize disruption and maintained continuity of care across the rest of the surgical floor throughout the process. The renovated spaces support clearer lines of sight, improved team coordination, and the flexibility to accommodate advancing technologies, strengthening the University of Chicago Medicine’s ability to deliver high-quality patient care over time.
